Printable Freebies

Hi there! Since we are approaching October and the fall season, I wanted to create some "subway art" for you to print!  These are great to print and put in an 8x10 picture frame, or give as a gift.  You can either print them at home on card stock or send it to get processed like a picture.  There are two to choose from.  You can print one or both.  Again, these are in 8x10 size.

New Signs

I've been busy getting ready to open my new Etsy store.  It's just going to have some vintage pieces, handmade items, antiques, signs, and little knick knacks that I've found.  On a wonderful "pick" a few weeks ago, I stumbled across some old cabinet doors.  Wood...check.  Chippy...check.
Perfect for a sign...check.
I love different and new sayings.  I think a sign is such a good conversation

New Pieces

I've been finishing up some projects that I've had a while and needed to put up for sale.  I'm pretty excited about all of these pieces and it's going to be hard to watch some of them go.  If you are interested in any of these, please email me for an appointment to view them.
The first one is The Accountant.  When I brought this one home and Michael saw it in the garage, he fell in love with it!

Custom Bedroom

I had another amazing opportunity to decorate a friends master bedroom.  She just moved into a brand new house and I was excited to get started.  This is the before picture.  Don't you love her nightstand? Hey, any port in a storm, right?

This is the after.  I love blues and browns together and there are so many different shades that you can put together.  I was inspired by my sister's bedroom

The Pie Safe

I had the pleasure of re-purposing an old pie safe for a friend of mine.  It was an old family piece and she didn't want to get rid of it, but didn't quite know what to do with the, ugh...well...birds...  Check it out... Here is the top of the pie safe and all her yellow glory.
The inside is awesome, equipped with the vent to cool the items inside.

A New School Year

The boys were so excited this morning!  (well actually for the last week!)  They couldn't wait to go back to school!  (I need to get them to the doctor)They are thrilled about who their teachers are this year and so excited about the kids in their class.

Anyway, they have had amazing teachers during their "career" and I just love making those wonderful ladies feel special.  Some of my good

Daytrippin'

One of the boys' favorite shows is The Daytripper with Chet Garner.  We love seeing all the wonderful things you can do in Texas in a day (or weekend for us).  So to end our summer vacation, we wanted to take a trip to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  We started out at Legoland Discovery Center.

The 4-D movies were amazing!  We got to see Clutch Powers and Spellbreaker.

Happy Birthday Dad!

This past weekend we celebrated my dad's 60th birthday at the beach house.  We had so much fun!!!  He was born in 1951 and graduated in 1969 so we really played up the hippie, groovy, tie dyed, generation theme.  We all wore matching tie dyed shirts.  (yes, we got plenty of looks on the beach)

My Boys

This is a crazy week in the Lightfoot house.  Two of our boys have birthdays four days apart.  We had a jump party for Caleb, a trip to Build-A-Bear, a sleepover for Aaron, a trip to the Chocolate Bar and Galleria on Thursday and then we finish the week off with a family party/lunch on Saturday!  Whew!  Mama is tired!  Here are some of our summer pictures!

My Kitchen

Yes, I have red cabinets.  That was my summer project from last year.  They were normal, builder grade oak cabinets so I wanted to update them to match my home.  I took everything off.  The doors, drawers, pulls, and handles.  First came the cleaning.  Grease from 1989 is not pretty.  Second, I took everything outside and sanded the doors and drawers.   For the body of the cabinets I used my

Living Room Part Two

Here are some details and knick knacks that I have in my living room.  Also, check out my new striped wall!
This hodgepodge shelf was from my aunt.  My grandfather made it for her and I just had to find a place for it.  I painted it and Michael attached some paneling behind it.  I love it.  So simple.

I found these two chippy shutters at the antique store.  I don't even know what they were used

Guest Bath

I know it's kind of weird posting pictures of my bathroom, but hopefully it will give someone some ideas.  The color is Cornflower from Lowe's.  I love brown and blue and I wanted to put a little antique feel to it.  Probably my favorite thing in this bathroom is the Lightfoot's soap.  My sweet friend Dikola saw that at a store and snatched it for me.  How neat is that!!!

Living Room Part One

We can finally sit back and enjoy our living room.  It's finished.  I repainted (my favorite word) the walls and it really freshened up the space.  It is Valspar Malted Milk.  I made the curtains and tied them with some matching ribbon.
I love my ladder.  It is displaying some of my favorite decor.  An old scale, old books, and some linens.  The end table I found at an estate sale for a

As some of you know, I fell in love with a piece of furniture that I had already sold.  We named it the Pajak Bar after the sweet family who bought it.  Well....not only did I find another one (to be painted  later) but I found a smaller version.  Here is the "famous" Pajak Bar. Original Pajak Bar

Dining Room Reveal

I wanted to share with you our new and improved dining room.  I wanted a clean, old south, farmhouse feel to it.  Nothing in here is new, except the curtains.  This was my first attempt at sewing my own window coverings.  I just couldn't find the exact material I wanted in a package so I knew I had to resort to buying my own material and making them. The wall color is actually a gray.  It's hard

Why I Do What I Do...

One cost me $20.  The other cost $1050.  (and no I do not have the period in the wrong place)
This is why I do what I do.  I LOVE the Bramble Co. furniture.  Especially the Cottage Collection.  I first saw these wonderful pieces of furniture on our trip to The Highlands, North Carolina in a little shop called Dutchman's.  Love. At. First. Sight.  But, until pigs fly, I won't be paying $1000

A Salvaged Swing

My sweet friend Brook found this swing on the side of the road. One man's trash...ya know?
We started by sanding it with the orbital sander just to get the chippy off.  (I never thought I'd say "get the chippy off")  Somethings are just nasty, old, chippy though.  We just wanted to take the old flaky paint off not making it smooth like a baby's bottom.  Sanded and ready for primer.

I could do these all day!  I love them!  I recently saw this quote on Pinterest.  (if you haven't been sucked into Pinterest yet, you are missing out!)  It's an online place to catalog the things you love.  Now I don't have to rack my brain and say, "Now where did I see that?"  It's all in one place and nice and neat in my folders (or boards as they call it).

Dictionary Wreath Tutorial

Hello again!  So good to be back in my blog world.  I have a special tutorial for you today.  I really enjoyed doing this and it's so easy you can too!  It's a totally "green" project too because we are using things that we already have or can buy at a thrift/resale store.  All the supplies you need for this is a wire hanger, an old dictionary (the older the better!), and some ribbon.

Summer Mantel

I'm trying to be a little better about changing my decor to fit the season.  Once we get the living room painted and decorated I think I'll be a little more motivated to do it.  Right now, it's just the mantel.  I picked up some things around the house that were beachy, summer colors, and textures.  Here's what I came up with.

Dabbling in Signs

I've been seeing these cute hand painted signs alot of places and wanted to see if I could dabble in it a little.  How on earth do people paint so straight and so good?!?!  Well, if I don't know, I ask!  The ladies on blogs are so helpful and nice.  I loved Jaime's sign from That's My Letter.

We picked her up at a garage sale a few months ago and I fell in love with her 5 cute little drawers. She's tall and slender, unique and plain.  The lady was happy to tell me what it was made for.  Her and her

I started a new tradition this year with all the Martin girls, big and little.  Each year around Easter I am hosting a Tea.  This is really just an excuse for us to get together, eat good food, and for me to be able to create girly decorations.

This year I went with the antique, vintage tea party.  Each year I'll do something a little different, but thisyear it was burlap, blacks, off whites,

The Pajak Bar

Every time I get a new piece I think it's my favorite.  Well, this one is.  Not the piece per se, but the color and paint details.  This is my second thing to use my Annie Sloan Chalk paint on and I'm still in love.  When I first saw it, I thought it was just a regular chest or small buffet.  I shouldn't have judged a book by it's cover.  The top "drawer" folds down and the "lid" folds up.

Feedsacks Part 2

So I know all of you were anxiously waiting by your computer wondering what in the world I was going to do with the feedsacks.  Why do they mean so much to me for goodness sake?  They are just material!  Well, let me show you why.

This is why.  Isn't he so stinkin' cute?

As most of you know, I had a wonderful time going through the treasures in my Aunt's garage and bringing home a few...errrr...alot of them. Included in this collection was a stack of feedsacks that my grandmother had used for material to make clothes. I never knew the history of the feedsack until I did a little research on the internet. How interesting! Make the containers that feed comes in

Oh how I love this piece.  I know my sweet Aunt is going to want this one back when she sees it.  Remember when I picked her up what she looked like?

She was in very good condition, but I needed to paint her.  I sanded, primed, and painted her one of my new paint colors from Olympic, Milk Paint.  Added a little Valspar Antiquing Glaze, replaced her knobs, and cleaned up the mirror.  Here she

Copycat Ladder

So I'm pretty sure my neighbors think I'm officially crazy.  "She's painting a ladder..."  Well, technically yes, but distressing it, sanding it, crackling it, and repurposing it for the house is more like it.
I got this idea from a great blog called Buckets of Burlap.  If you haven't been to see Becky's site, scroll down to the bottom to click on it.  Her farmhouse is wonderful to take a "tour"

Remember my wonderful little wash stand that I found in my Aunt's garage? Well after MUCH love, paint stripper, sanding, repairing, and painting it's finished. I'm so pleased with it! It has so much character and hopefully it will be enjoyed for another hundred years.

Cleaning it was probably my least favorite part. It had...things...in it. First thing was to strip as much paint off as I

The SEA

One of the projects from the bedroom that was DIY, was this SEA decoration. The wood brings a natural "outside" feeling to our little room. I was inspired by my mom's creation that she made for the beach cabin. She saw a 5 ft. seahorse for the wall, made out of driftwood, in a magazine. Let's just say it cost as much as a small country... Anyway, she had my dad cut the seahorse shape out of

I have been working on our master bedroom the last few days. Yes, I'm redecorating it. Again. I will explain why. Some of you know my parents' beach house was destroyed by Hurricane Ike. Down to the cement. Last spring it was built again and the fun part was decorating and painting! My parents live in the Beaumont area, and my mom enjoys coming to Houston to shop. While I had the paint out for something else, I wanted to paint this little three drawer piece that I've had for a while. One man's trash...

As some of you know, I LOVE painting. OK... some of you know I'm obsessed with painting. I acutally have been known to ask my friends what room of THEIR house needs painting can I paint. I love the quietness and art of painting, and the transformation of a room or object for a small amount of money. We have been looking for a desk or two for the boys to put in their rooms to do homework on.
